This is a project envisioning characters and set from a Filipino-inspired farming-life sim game. Imagine a town filled with cursed villagers, except instead of the usual run of the mill monsters like Vampires or Ghouls, or even regional variants like Aswang or Kapre, these villagers have been cursed into living objects!
"Bayanihan" is a Filipino term and value referring to the spirit of communal unity and cooperation. In the past, when houses were made of lighter materials such as coconut leaves, a true example of Bayanihan was physically helping your neighbour move their house — literally.
Protagonists: Idiyan and Isagani
Inspired by the dress and style of the Ifugao people of the Philippines, Idiyan and Isagani are the playable protagonists. Showing the typical amnesiac behaviour of a RPG protagonist, they're the perfect blank slate to pilot exploring the Bayanihan through farming, foraging, and spending time with villagers.
Vera
Vera is the acting mayor in the Bayanihan and the first character which started this project. Inspired by the traditional pina fabric used in the Philippines to make traditional clothing like the Maria Clara Filipiniana and the Barong Tagalog, I combined the figure of a candle to create Vera's somber figure as she stands in a perpetual vigil waiting for her missing father to return. But like all nobility, she hides important knowledge and secrets behind her stoic facade.
Tangway
Tangway, the tavern owner, is a concept of a wine-barrel crossed over with a typical Filipino Tito (uncle). He is loud, amicable, and ready to help at a moment's notice, especially if that help is looking to finish off your drink!
